AMATEUR BASEBALL: Pirates open league play with win

The Windom Pirates scored in all but one inning Sunday, opening First Nite League play with a 12-2 victory at Heron Lake.

The Pirates were never retired in order in the game, with only the second inning being scoreless.

Windom opened the scoring in the first inning on a Noah Kloss RBI groundout. Kloss added an RBI sacrifice fly in the third for a 2-0 lead.

Luke Gilbertson doubled the lead in the fourth with a two-run single. The Pirates added a run on a wild pitch in the fifth, then got a two-run Brett Willaby single in the sixth.

Windom added a bases-loaded walk and scored two runs on errors in the seventh. The Pirates added a run on a wild pitch in the eighth and scored on an error in the ninth.

Willaby led the Pirates with three hits, while Kloss had two hits and four RBI. Gilbertson and Chayton Struck also added two hits.

Gilbertson picked up the pitching win, working two innings of relief.
