State aid helps open The Landing Apartments after HyLife failure

After being severely stalled by the abrupt closing of Hy-Life in 2023, a six-building apartment complex is renting apartments and finishing construction this spring as a business now called The Landing.

Windom Apartments LLC is the development company that built and designed The Landing, and originally the apartments were meant to house pork processing plant workers from HyLife, over 200 of whom were being bussed to the job site daily at HyLife from Mankato due to the lack of affordable and available housing in Windom.

The complex contains six buildings with over 60 two and four-bedroom apartments available.
Windom Economic Development Authority director Tiffany Lamb said the city has worked very closely with the developers since HyLife’s failure and to see the apartments actually being rented now is a dramatic shift since HyLife declared bankruptcy exactly a year ago on May 8.

“The new development has begun with at least two buildings open at this point,” said Lamb.
