SOFTBALL: Wolverines walk off with win

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey saw the lead slip away in the top of the seventh, but rebounded in the bottom of the inning to earn a 6-5 walk-off win over Cleveland Thursday at Comfrey.

The Wolverines took a 2-1 lead in the third. Annika Brinkman hit an RBI single and Nadia Phommachan was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Wolverines added a run on an error in the fourth, then went up 4-2 in the sixth on an Ella Dockter RBI single.

Cleveland rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh, taking a 5-4 lead. But in the bottom of the seventh, Phommachan was hit by a pitch, Reagan Pedersen hit a single, Ashlyn Pfeiffer moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt and Kaila Blom hit a single to right-center, plating both runners for the victory.

Pfeiffer picked up the pitching win, allowing nine hits and two walks without a strikeout.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn’t hold off a strong offensive team Thursday, as Edgerton/Southwest Christian claimed an 8-1 win at Edgerton.

The Dutchmen broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third, then added two in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.

The Falcons got on the board in the top of the sixth. Natalie Wahl led off with a double and scored on a Leah Carter RBI double.

But the Dutchmen put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double and a two-run home run.

Carter had two of the Falcons’ five hits in the loss.

Addeson Jenniges took the pitching loss, working the first 5-⅔ innings. She allowed 13 hits, walked four and struck out three.
