County approves electric pickup purchase

Cottonwood County, along with five other counties in MnDOT District 7, will soon receive an electric pickup.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners approved the purchase of at least six electric pickups. The county is coordinating the project for a six-county area. A federal grant is covering 80% of the cost for each pickup, reducing each county’s share to $16,000 per vehicle. Each of the six counties will receive one vehicle, with Cottonwood possibly receiving two as grant coordinator.

One electric vehicle would be used by the public works department, while the other vehicle, if approved by MnDOT, would be a pool vehicle for all county departments.

More from Tuesday’s meeting appears in the May 8 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
