Representative Marj Fogelman of Fulda is raising questions about religious rights and freedom in the state around the issues of gender identity and church-group hirings.
The politician reported that a vote recently failed to restore language in the law that would have reinstituted the religious exemption in the Minnesota Human Rights Act protecting religious organizations and faith-based schools against claims of gender identity discrimination.
That exemption ensures that religious organizations and faith-based schools can, among other things, hire teachers and ministers consistent with their vocation and values, Fogelman wrote.
