BASEBALL: Eagles pick up back-to-back wins

The Windom Eagle baseball team rallied late Saturday for a 3-2 victory over Madelia in a game played at ISG Field in Mankato.

The Eagles trailed 2-0 until the sixth inning. Stevie Meyer got the Eagles on the board with an RBI groundout and Hayden Tietz gave the Eagles the lead with a two-out, two-run single.

The Eagle defense shut the door after that, throwing out a would-be base stealer in the sixth and sealing the win with a snared line drive in the seventh.

Joe Walinga picked up the complete-game pitching win for his first varsity career victory, scattering six hits. He walked one and struck out four.

The Windom Eagle baseball team broke things open late Friday, securing an 8-2 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey at Island Park.

The Eagles used a five-run fifth inning to close out the scoring in the victory.

Windom got on the board in the bottom of the first. Drew Rothenberger and Hunter Palm hit RBI singles.

MLAC got a run back in the top of the second on an error.

In the third, Rothenberger’s single gave the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

The Wolverines closed to 3-2 in the top of the fifth on a Tyler Dick sacrifice fly.

Windom closed the game out in the fifth. Stevie Meyer laced an RBI double, Palm and Charles Erickson hit RBI singles and Windom scored two runs on errors.

Rothenberger led the Eagles with three hits. Meyer and Palm had two hits each.

Jackson Veenker picked up his first career pitching win, working the first five innings. He allowed two hits and walked five without a strikeout.

Jake Evers took the loss, allowing 11 hits and a walk while fanning five.
