Mary Ann Duerksen

 

The family of Mary A. Duerksen of Wilder, Minnesota, is saddened to announce her passing on May 1st at the age of 80 years.

Mary was born to Christina (Coners) and Elvin (Pete) Johnson on April 29, 1944, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Mary graduated from Butterfield High School in 1962.

Early in life Mary was married twice and blessed with four children: Curtis, Kimberly, Leslie, and Stacey. The last 42 years was spent with the love of her life, Wayne Lund.

Throughout her life, Mary entered the work force as a waitress, caterer and spent many years at McDonalds until her retirement in 2020.

Mary enjoyed hosting large gatherings with friends, family, and lots of laughter. During the holidays Mary enjoyed making family favorites, including her famous cinnamon rolls and potato salad. Mary was known for her sharp pool shooting skills and playing bingo, giving her the nickname “Grandma Bingo.” Mary loved spending her time camping at Talcot Lake, fishing, baking, and having coffee with the ladies. Mary was known affectionately as “Umwah” by her family.

Mary is survived by her partner, Wayne; four children; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three siblings; and numerous family, loved ones, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mary Duerksen, age 80, of Wilder, was held Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the American Lutheran Church of Windom with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating. The service was livestreamed on the American Lutheran Church Facebook page.
