BASEBALL: Eagles earn sweep over Bucs

The Windom Eagle baseball team was sharp on offense Thursday afternoon, picking up a doubleheader sweep over Blue Earth Area at Island Park.

The Eagles won the opener 5-4, then took the nightcap 12-5.

In the opener, the Eagles took a quick 3-1 lead on an RBI single from Tucker Renquist and a two-run single from Hunter Palm.

BEA took a 4-3 lead in the second, but the Eagles tied the game in the third on another RBI single from Palm.

In the bottom of the sixth, Stevie Meyer led off with a double, Palm hit a single and Wriley Haugen plated the winning run with a squeeze bunt.

Palm had three hits and three RBI in the win. Quintin Tietz and Renquist had two hits each.

Jackson Joyce worked the final 5-⅓ innings on the mound to earn the win, allowing one hit and fanning eight.

In the nightcap, the Eagles got on the board in the top of the first on a Drew Rothenberger sacrifice fly.

Windom then took a 6-3 lead in the third. Adam Perrizo hit an RBI single, Rothenberger added an RBI double, Palm hit a two-run single and Matthew Voehl hit an RBI single.

Stevie Meyer added an RBI double in the fourth and scored on an error.

The Eagles sealed the win in the seventh as Tietz hit a two-run single and Rothenberger blasted a two-run home run.

Tietz led the Eagles with three hits in the win.

Palm earned the pitching win, working the first five innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out one.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove salvaged a split of a doubleheader Thursday against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Lamberton, winning the opener 4-1 before dropping the nightcap 5-1.

In the opener, the Falcons trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth. Austin Imker’s sacrifice fly tied the game. The Falcons added RBI singles from Quintyn Vold and Hudsen Jenniges and scored on an error to do all their damage in the game.

Jake Jackson and Vold had two hits each. Vold earned the pitching win, working 6-⅔ innings. He allowed three hits, walked four and struck out four.

In the nightcap, the Falcons again played from behind early, tying the game at 1-1 in the top of the third on a groundout from Vold.

But the Knights pulled away by scoring in each of its last three trips to the plate to seal the win.

Imker took the pitching loss, working the first five innings. He allowed three hits, walked five and struck out six.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey’s offense couldn’t keep pace Thursday as the Wolverines dropped an 8-3 decision to Edgerton/Southwest Christian in Mt. Lake.

The two teams were even through the first three innings. MLAC tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on a Sam Pidde RBI single. Then, in the third, the Wolverines tied the game at 3-3, as Tanner Schultz hit an RBI single and Tyler Dick drew a bases-loaded walk.

But the Dutchmen scored in each of the final four innings while holding the Wolverines of the board the rest of the way, including leaving the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

Schultz had three hits in the loss. Landon Simon added a pair of hits.

Simon also took the pitching loss, working the first four innings. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three.
