SOFTBALL: Falcons pull past Coyotes

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove made the most of its scoring opportunities Thursday afternoon, claiming a 12-5 victory over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in Okabena.

The Falcons came up with timely outs on defense in the game, forcing the Coyotes to strand 14 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded three times.

RRC/WWG got on the board on a wild pitch and an Ella Knakmuhs RBI single in the first.

Natasha Wahl and Natalie Wahl had RBI singles and Leah Carter hit a two-run single in the second, giving the Falcons a 6-1 lead.

In the fourth, Knakmuhs drew a bases-loaded walk and Carlie Ross hit an RBI triple. The Falcons then put the game away in the seventh, with Carter plating a run with a groundout and Knakmuhs hitting a two-run single.

Knakmuhs had three hits and four RBI in the win. Natalie Wahl and Hadley Jenniges had two hits each.

Addeson Jenniges scattered 16 hits, walked four and struck out four in the win.

Murray County Central poured things on over the final two innings Thursday, rolling to a 15-0 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Mt. Lake.

The Rebels capitalized on 11 hits and six Wolverine errors in the game, with all of the errors coming in the final two innings.

MCC added a three-run home run in the fifth inning to help pull away.

Meanwhile, the Wolverine offense struggled, with only four baserunners advancing past first base in the game.

Julia Brinkman had two hits in the loss. She also took the pitching loss, allowing 11 hits and four walks while striking out three.
