BASEBALL: Eagles pull away late, top Saints

The Windom Eagle baseball team jumped to an early lead, then surged over the final three innings to claim a 13-4 victory at St. James Thursday.

Windom took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Hayden Tietz hit a two-run single and scored on a Stevie Meyer double.

The Eagles broke the game open in the fifth. Drew Rothenberger hit an RBI single and Windom scored on a passed ball and an error, taking a 6-1 lead.

In the sixth, Quintin Tietz and Adam Perrizo hit RBI singles, Hayden Tietz had an RBI sacrifice fly and a run scored on a wild pitch.

The Eagles finished things off in the seventh, as Quintin Tietz and Rothenberger hit RBI singles and Perrizo had a sacrifice fly.

Quintin Tietz had four hits in the win. Rothenberger and Meyer had two hits each.

Hunter Palm earned the pitching win, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove raced to an early lead Thursday, cruising to an 11-1 win over Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in Lamberton.

The Falcons plated runs in the bottom of the first on a Hudsen Jenniges groundout and a wild pitch, then added a run in the second on a balk.

In the third, the Falcons put the game away with a six-run inning, scoring five runs on wild pitches and adding a sacrifice fly from Corey Arkell.

The Falcons ended the game via the 10-run rule in the fifth inning, plating two runs on errors.

Jake Jackson and Ashton Holmen had two hits each in the win.

Jenniges worked four innings, allowing two hits and a walk while fanning nine in the win.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t capitalize on scoring chances Thursday, dropping a 9-2 decision to Murray County Central at Slayton.

The Wolverines stranded nine runners on base, including seven in scoring position in the game.

The Wolverines got on the board in the top of the first on a Sam Pidde RBI single.

Tyler Dick drove in the other Wolverine run with an RBI single in the seventh.

Pidde and Landon Simon had three hits each in the loss. Dick added a pair of hits.

Aidan Olson took the complete-game pitching loss, allowing 13 hits without a walk and striking out four.
