TUESDAY BASEBALL: Eagles thump Arrows; Falcons topple Wolverines

The Windom Eagles used two dominant innings at the plate Tuesday to batter Pipestone for a 20-9 victory at Pipestone.

The Eagles plated 12 runs in the top of the third inning, then put the game out of reach with a seven-run sixth.

The Eagles got on the board in the top of the first when Quintin Tietz scored on a wild pitch.

After Pipestone tied the game at 1-1 in the second, the Eagles took command in the third. Quintin Tietz and Drew Rothenberger each had an RBI single. Hayden Tietz plated a run on a sacrifice fly. Hunter Palm hit an RBI single. Windom got two runs on bases-loaded walks and another on a fielder’s choice. Hayden Tietz followed with a two-run single. Stevie Meyer hit an RBI single and Hunter Palm’s RBI single gave the Eagles a 13-1 lead.

Pipestone battled back, pulling to within 13-9 with a seven-run fifth inning. But the Eagles put the game away with seven runs in the sixth. Matthew Voehl plated a run with a squeeze bunt, Tucker Renquist hit a two-run single, Adam Perrizo hit an RBI double and Windom added runs on a balk and errors.

Quintin Tietz, Rothenberger, Palm and Renquist had two hits each in the win.

Charles Erickson earned the pitching win, working the first 4-⅔ innings. He allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out five.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove capitalized on miscues Tuesday, racing to a 12-2 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey in Mt. Lake.

The Falcons drew five walks, had two hit batters and made the most of eight Wolverine errors in the game.

Three of those errors came in the first inning, as the Falcons plated four runs without the benefit of a hit. RRC/WWG added a run in the second on a wild pitch.

The Wolverines cut the deficit to 5-1 in the third on a Ram Vazquez RBI single, but the Falcons put the game out of reach in the fourth with five runs. RRC/WWG scored on a wild pitch and a double steal, added a run on an error and got a two-run Jake Jackson single.

MLAC scored its final run in the fourth inning. Tanner Schultz hit a one-out single, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.

The Falcons added a run in the fifth on an error, then had a Jackson RBI single in the sixth to seal the game.

Jackson had three hits and three RBI in the win for the Falcons.

Quintyn Vold earned the pitching win for RRC/WWG, allowing two hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out six.

Vazquez took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing four unearned runs in one inning. He walked three and struck out two.
