BASEBALL: Eagles fall at Luverne

Luverne used two big innings to pull away from the Windom Eagles Thursday, claiming an 11-7 victory at Luverne.

Luverne broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run fourth inning, then put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Windom got on the board in the top of the fourth on an Adam Perrizo sacrifice fly.

In the fifth, the Eagles closed to within 6-4 on a Quintin Tietz RBI grounder, an RBI triple from Drew Rothenberger and an RBI single from Perrizo.

The Eagles got their final runs in the seventh, as Rothenberger launched a three-run home run.

Rothenberger and Jackson Joyce had two hits each in the loss.

Rothenberger also took the pitching loss, working the first four innings. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out five.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn’t hold onto the lead Thursday as it dropped a 9-3 decision to Edgerton/Southwest Christian at Edgerton.

The Falcons took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth, as Abe Stavnes hit an RBI single and two runs scored on wild pitches.

But the Dutchmen regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, then put the game away with a five-run sixth.

Hudsen Jenniges took the pitching loss, working the first 4-⅔ innings. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out 12.
