Juvenile, 15, found in drowning is Skyler Goulette from Mt. Lake

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Department issued a short press release this afternoon confirming that the body of 15-year-old Skyler Goulette of Mt. Lake was located on Wednesday morning at approximately 11:25 a.m at Eagle Lake west of Mt. Lake.

The juvenile had been missing since an accident Monday where he jumped into the lake from a canoe to retrieve a lost paddle, and never made it back to the boat or the shore.

Sheriff Jason Purrington said the search on Monday night went until 2 a.m. on Tuesday, and then the search resumed at daylight but was hampered all day by miserable conditions including downpours and dangerous lightning that kept the search teams completely off the lake at times.

The Windom Fire Department was part of the search and recovery for three days, and Chief Ben Derickson said there were 13 boats on the lake searching on the day of the recovery and there were also teams of people searching the shoreline areas by foot and in cold water suits.

The Sheriff’s Department expressed that thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Goulette during this difficult time.
