County disperses housing funds

Affordable housing in Cottonwood County will receive a bit of a boost following Tuesday’s Cottonwood County Commissioners meeting.

The board discussed the $88,440 in affordable housing grant money the county has received already from the state, with another $88,440 coming next year.

The board previously heard from United Community Action Partnership. At Tuesday’s meeting, the board heard from Rebuilding Together Minnesota, which sought funds to help repair and rebuild housing for low-income families, and from the Mt. Lake Economic Development Authority, which sought funds as part of a grant application to help fund construction of a 12-unit apartment complex.

Ultimately, the board approved dispersing $38,000 to UCAP, $25,440 to Rebuilding Together Minnesota and $25,000 to the Mt. Lake EDA, with the Mt. Lake portion contingent upon the EDA being awarded the grant it is applying for.

More from Tuesday’s meeting appears in the April 17 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
