Search for 15-year-old boy’s body continues

On Monday evening at 6:43, the Cottonwood County dispatch received a call about a 15-year-old male who was canoeing with a family member on Eagle Lake, and apparently drowned trying to swim back to the canoe after jumping in the lake to retrieve a lost paddle.

There were no life jackets in the canoe. The young male reportedly attempted to swim to shore, but the family member lost sight of the juvenile. A search of the shoreline and lake was conducted last evening but the search was suspended at approximately 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The search continues today as Jackson County searchers join the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s office, Mt. Lake fire, ambulance and police departments, the Windom fire and police departments, the Minnesota DNR and the State Patrol in the effort.

Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington reported the search was put to a standstill this morning because of rain and lightning.
