SOFTBALL: Wolverines, Falcons fall Friday

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t keep pace with a solid Springfield club Friday as the Tigers raced to a 12-2 victory.

Springfield hammered out 14 hits in the game, scoring multiple runs in three innings.

The Wolverines got on the board in the top of the second on a Nadia Phommachan RBI groundout. The Wolverines then briefly took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Lexi Romsdahl RBI single.

But Springfield plated four runs in the bottom of the third on their way to 11 unanswered runs.

Kylie Phommachan had two hits in the loss.

Ashlyn Pfeiffer pitched 5-⅔ innings, allowing 14 hits. She walked one and struck out eight.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell behind early and couldn’t catch up Friday, dropping a 14-9 decision to Nicollet at Walnut Grove.

The Raiders jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led the rest of the way, holding off a pair of Falcon surges.

RRC/WWG got on the board with a Natalie Wahl RBI double in the bottom of the first.

The Falcons then cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fourth on an RBI single from Alyssa Cowan and an RBI double from Natasha Wahl.

In the fifth, Cowan hit a two-run single, Ella Erickson and Natasha Wahl hit RBI singles and Natalie Wahl had a two-run double, again bringing the Falcons to within a run at 10-9.

But Nicollet scored twice in each of the last two innings and kept the Falcons off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Natasha Wahl, Natalie Wahl and Cowan each had three hits and three RBI in the loss.

Carlie Ross took the pitching loss, allowing 13 hits and seven walks while striking out six.
