BASEBALL: Eagles sink Cardinals

The Windom Eagle baseball team made the most of its scoring chances Friday, claiming a 7-4 victory over Luverne at Island Park.

The Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the first inning and led the rest of the way.

In the first, the Eagles scored on an RBI triple from Adam Perrizo, on a dropped pop fly and on a Hunter Palm squeeze bunt.

The Eagles got the big hit of the game in the second, when Quintin Tietz launched a two-run home run, giving the Eagles a 5-1 lead.

Luverne got a pair of runs back in the third, but the Eagles stretched the lead back to 7-3 in the bottom of the inning on an error and on a squeeze bunt from Palm.

Drew Rothenberger picked up the pitching win, working 4-⅔ innings in relief. He allowed two hits, walked three and struck out four.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey mounted a wild, walk-filled comeback Friday, defeating Martin County West 14-13 in Welcome.

The Wolverines took the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring 10 runs on just three hits. The Wolverines drew six walks and had a hit batter in the inning.

MLAC briefly took the lead with a three-run third inning. Alex Karschnik had an RBI single and Cooper Wenner hit a two-run single.

In the fourth, MLAC scored a run on a double steal.

Trailing 10-4 going into the sixth, the Wolverines mounted a 10-run rally. Kaleb Nowak hit an RBI single, Sam Pidde plated a run when he reached on an error and Landon Simon hit a two-run single. Jake Evers and Karschnik also drew bases-loaded walks, with wild pitches accounting for the other Wolverine runs.

Karschnik and Grant Regier had two hits each in the win.

Simon worked the final two innings on the mound to earn the pitching win.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove used timely hits and a patient eye at the plate to claim an 11-1 win over Yellow Medicine East Friday in Lamberton.

The Falcons got on the board with an RBI fielder’s choice from Isaac Simonson and an RBI single from Corey Arkell in the first.

In the second, Quintyn Vold and Hudsen Jenniges had RBI singles and Simonson hit a two-run single, giving the Falcons a 7-0 lead.

RRC/WWG added runs in the third on a wild pitch and an error.

Jackson Jenniges drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth and Tyler Therkilsen ended the game with an RBI single in the fifth.

Abe Stavnes and Therkilsen had two hits each.

Hudsen Jenniges worked the first three innings to record the pitching win.
