BASEBALL: Wolverines fall in extra innings

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey saw a lead slip away Thursday, as the Wolverines fell 9-8 in eight innings to Edgerton/Southwest Christian at Edgerton.

The Wolverines were able to build leads twice in the game. In the top of the second, MLAC scored twice on a Ram Vazquez two-run single.

The Wolverines added a run in the fourth on a fielder’s choice. Then, in the sixth, Landon Simon hit a two-run single.

ESWC stormed back, scoring three times in the sixth, then tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, the Wolverines regained the lead when Alex Karschnik launched a three-run home run. But in the bottom of the inning, the Dutchmen scored on a pair of singles, then earned the win on a walk-off double.

Vazquez had three hits in the loss.

Aiden Olson worked the final 1-⅔ innings to take the pitching loss.

Windom, RRC/WWG games postponed

Windom’s scheduled game at St. James was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

The game was rescheduled for April 19 at St. James, with a 4:30 p.m. start time.

RRC/WWG’s game against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Ruthton also was postponed due to weather.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader May 2 in Lamberton, with the first game starting at 3 p.m.
