Nevis tops Mt. Lake in state quarterfinals

Mt. Lake ran into a tough test in the Class A boys basketball state quarterfinals with Nevis as the Tigers defeated Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey 78-54 on Thursday at the Target Center.

The taller Tigers stretched a seven-point halftime lead into double digits and advanced to the semifinals. MLA/C, meanwhile, will play Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the consolation bracket at Concordia University on Friday morning.

The Wolverines had three players in double figures, including Carter Olson (15 points), Kody Wassman (13) and Alex Karschnik. Alex Lester led the Tigers with 21 points and 15 rebounds and Austin Ahrendt provided 17 points. Eli Lewis also hit double figures with 10 points.

Nevis out-rebounded MLA/C 45-29 in the game. The Tigers pulled away late, closing out the game with a 15-0 run in the final 5:33.
