Morris G. Freier

Morris Glenn Freier, 91, Park Rapids, MN passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.

Morris was born March 17, 1932 at Delmont, SD to Theodore and Olga (Brosz) Freier. Educated at Tripp High School, he received a Bachelor of Music Education from Yankton College. He was a band director at Ellsworth, MN and Canton, SD. Morris served in the US Army from 1953-1955 and in the Army reserves until 1961. On August 16, 1957 he married Gerda Flatgard at Bethany Lutheran Church near Bergen, MN.

In 1959 the family moved to Jackson, MN where they farmed in Belmont Township, raising beef, hogs and grain. Morris joined the Postal Service, completing his career in 1992 when they retired to St. Cloud, MN. In St. Cloud he was a volunteer in the CentraCare Health System. Always an active church member, he also was treasurer for the Jackson County Chapter of the Thrivent organization and a representative on the Men in Mission Synod Board.

Music was a life-long interest for Morris. He was a member of the Yankton College concert choir, band, Greyhound Dance Band, served 2 years in the U.S. Army Band, Sioux Falls Symphony, Canton Grieg Chorus, Jackson American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, Windom Barbershop Chorus, church choirs, Sartell City Band, St. Cloud Municipal Band, and family ensembles.

Morris enjoyed camping and traveling coast to coast. His greatest pleasure was the company of his family.

Morris is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gerda Idelle Freier of Park Rapids; children, Nola Petrisse (Jeffrey) Erickson, Dr. Timothy Alan (Laurie) Freier, Ethan Jerome (Colleen) Freier; grandchildren, Idelle and Emily Erickson, Theodor Freier, Brennan, Maura and Cullen Williams-Freier; and brother, Dr. Duane Freier.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Olga Freier; and sister, Evelyn Siewert.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Atonement Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, MN with visitation for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery near Bergen, MN at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids, MN.
