At Tuesday’s meeting, Cottonwood County Commissioners debated the salaries for the four elected department heads in the county.
Late last year, the board offered each position an increase equivalent to a cost of living increase of roughly 3%. However, the elected officials noted the board did not take into account experience, training and other factors.
Two of those elected officials — county attorney Nick Anderson and auditor/treasurer Donna Torkelson — have since resigned to take high-paid positions elsewhere.
The board subsequently approved increases amounting to roughly 4.1% for the county recorder, attorney and auditor/treasurer and nearly 5% for the sheriff.
The board also approved a pay increase for the highway engineer on a 4-1 vote.
