SECTION BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles, Falcons bow out

Windom 32-22 = 54
Pipestone 57-37 = 94

A steady surge for much of the first half propelled Pipestone to a commanding early lead Saturday as the Arrows rolled to a 94-54 win over the Windom Eagle boys basketball team in the Section 3AA playoffs at Pipestone.

The Arrows took command of the game early, using a 12-3 run early in the game to open a 10-point cushion. Pipestone was red hot from the field and from the free throw line throughout the game, pushing the lead to 25 points by halftime.

In the second half, the Arrow defense limited the Eagles to 22 points, as Pipestone continued to pull away with an 18-2 run.

Drew Rothenberger led the Eagles with 16 points. Elliot Serreyn scored 12 and Eli Lund finished with 11.

RRC 28-34 = 62
RTR 38-35 = 73

A cold stretch late in the first half and early in the second proved to be too much for the Red Rock Central boys basketball team to overcome Saturday, as the Falcons fell 73-62 to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the Section 3A playoffs at Worthington.

RRC led much of the first half, but a string of turnovers late in the half sparked a 13-3 run for RTR, as the Knights opened up a 10-point halftime lead.

RTR then opened the second half with a 21-3 burst, stretching the lead to 28 points.

But RRC battled back, whittling away at the deficit before eventually pulling within single digits before RTR sealed the win from the free throw line.

Isaac Simonson led the Falcons with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Jayden Lang added 19 points in the loss.
