County looks at options for attorney vacancy

The impending vacancy at the county attorney’s office was at the forefront for Cottonwood County Commissioners Tuesday.

The board formally approved the resignation of Nick Anderson as county attorney and discussed seeking help from neighboring counties while looking to fill the vacancy.

Commissioner Donna Gravley noted she had spoken to Jackson County Attorney Kristi Meyeraan about providing help in the interim. Meyeraan is a former assistant county attorney for Cottonwood County. The board also is looking at reaching out to Murray County for possible assistance until the county fills the vacancy.

The county will be able to appoint someone to serve the remainder of Anderson’s term, which is up for election in 2026. However, as an elected position, the office-holder must be a resident of the county.

More from Tuesday’s meeting appears in the Feb. 21 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
