GIRLS BASKETBALL: State-ranked Saints roll past Eagles

The Windom girls basketball team couldn’t keep pace on offense with a red-hot St. Peter squad Saturday night, as the Saints rolled to an 82-46 victory in the Big South Conference Showcase at Blue Earth.

St. Peter, the state’s fourth-ranked Class AAA team, was sharp on offense from the start, shooting 56% from the field for the game and over 52% from three-point range for the game.

The Saints were able to blow the game open early with a string of three-pointers, taking a 21-point lead halfway through the opening half. The Saints then closed the first half with a flurry, stretching the lead to 27.

Windom was never able to counter on offense in the second half, as the Saints pushed the lead to nearly 40 points and put the final nine minutes of the game into running time.

Haidyn Sammons led the Eagles with 12 points. Hadley Sammons added 11 points in the loss.

Nicollet 28-30 = 58
MLAC 48-21 = 69

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey was hot early, but had to hang on late Friday to defeat Nicollet 69-58 at Comfrey.

The Wolverines drained seven first-half three-pointers, racing out to a 20-point halftime advantage. Julia Brinkman poured in 19 points in the opening half.

But in the second half, the Raiders rallied, cutting the Wolverine lead down to single digits before MLAC stabilized in the closing minutes. 

Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 23 points in the win. Reagan Pedersen added 14 points.
