WRESTLING: Cobras, Falcons knocked out of sections

The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team opened the Section 3AA Team Tournament with a win, but was knocked out in the section quarterfinals Thursday at New Ulm.

The Cobras opened the tourney with a 51-13 win over Worthington. In the match, the Cobras received six forfeit victories.

John Bergeman (189) recorded the lone win by fall for the Cobras. WML added decision wins from Dagen Hansen (127), Kameron Koerner (133) and Graycen Hansen (172).

Against top-seeded New Ulm, the Cobras fell behind early, and New Ulm won the final seven weight classes, with six by fall or forfeit.

Tucker Renquist (139) won a major decision for the Cobras. Matthew Voehl (114) added a decision for the only other Cobra victory in the match.

Cardinals 49, Falcons 19

Red Rock Central was bounced from the Section 3A Team Tournament with a 49-19 opening-round loss to Redwood Valley Thursday in Jackson.

The Falcons gave up five forfeit losses in the match.

Keagan Steen (107) and Evan Bartholomaus (152) each won by fall for the Falcons. Marshal Willhite (114) won by major decision and Andrew Pankonin (139) won by decision.
