BOYS HOCKEY: Eagles win wild finale in overtime

A wild, back-and-forth game saw the Windom Area boys hockey team squander a lead, only to force overtime and eventually claim an 8-7 overtime victory at Worthington.

The two teams came out firing, combining for seven goals in the opening period.

Windom got on the board first, with Sonny Heil scoring 3:21 into the game. Just over a minute later, Luke Anderson gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Worthington answered, scoring twice 10 seconds apart to tie the game, but the Eagles regained the lead on an unassisted goal by Heil.

Worthington netted the tying goal at the 10:32 mark of the first, then took a 4-3 lead with a goal with 37 seconds left in the opening period.

The second period was all Eagles, as Heil and Wriley Haugen netted power play goals to give the Eagles the lead. An unassisted goal from Karson LaCanne stretched the lead to 6-4.

But the Trojans answered in the third, scoring on the power play, then tacking on a pair of goals a minute apart to take a 7-6 lead.

With 3:08 left on the clock, Heil picked off a pass and scored an unassisted goal, tying the game at 7-7 and sending it to overtime.

In overtime, Landon Pillatzki was able to stuff home a rebound of a shot by Haugen, giving the Eagles the win.

Worthington outshot the Eagles 44-31 for the game. Goalie Adam Dahna finished with 37 saves.
