Fairmont 0-1-0 = 1
Windom Area 1-1-2 = 4
The Windom Area girls hockey team’s second line did all the damage Thursday night, as the Eagles opened the Section 3A playoffs with a 4-1 victory over Fairmont at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles got on the board 2:24 into the game and held the lead throughout. In the opening period, Reagan Haugen took a feed from Toria Robillard and flipped a backhanded shot over the shoulder of the Fairmont goalie for the game’s first goal.
Early in the second period, the Eagles took a 2-0 lead when Robillard won a scramble for the puck in front of the net, shoveling a shot into the cage.
Fairmont cut the deficit to 2-1 with 7:32 left in the second, when Karissa Newville took a long feed and scored on a shorthanded breakaway.
But the Eagles quickly regained a two-goal lead in the third period, when Madyson Fredin redirected a shot into the net. Ella Dockter and Mataya Hall assisted on the goal.
Then, with 2:44 left on the clock, Robillard camped out by the goalpost and stuffed home a rebound, with Fredin and Haugen both assisting on the play.
Windom outshot the Cardinals 55-28 for the game. Eagle goalie Fiona Robillard finished with 27 saves in the win.
