GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles top Rebels Thursday

Windom 34-31 = 65
MCC 21-20 = 41

A fast start and hot outside shooting propelled the Windom girls basketball team to a 65-41 victory over Murray County Central Thursday in Slayton.

The Eagles came out of the games firing, as Windom raced to a 13-point halftime lead behind hot shooting from Haidyn Sammons and Leah Hauge, who combined for 24 first-half points.

The second half saw the Eagles maintain their lead, holding MCC’s offense under wraps with a strong defensive performance.

The second half also saw a big boost for the Eagles’ depth, as sophomore guard Anja Nielsen saw her first floor action in over a month due to injury.

Sammons led the Eagles with 20 points. Hauge added 16 and Hannah Dauer scored 11 points in the win.
