BOYS BASKETBALL: Milestone comes in Eagle loss

Pipestone 48-41 = 89
Windom 35-37 = 72

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team fell behind early and never recovered Thursday night, dropping an 89-72 decision to Pipestone at Windom.

The Eagle defense wasn’t able to slow down the Arrows, who shot just under 50% from the field for the game and 34% from three-point range.

Pipestone was able to open a 13-point halftime edge and extended the lead in the second half.

Windom senior Drew Rothenberger scored 28 points in the loss. In the process, he became just the seventh Eagle boy to surpass 1,000 career points.

Elliot Serreyn added 13 points and Eli Lund scored 11 in the loss.

RTR 47-26-09 = 82
MLAC 33-40-05 = 78

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey battled from a 17-point second half deficit to force overtime, but ran out of gas in the extra period, falling 82-78 to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in Mt. Lake.

RTR led by 14 at halftime and padded its lead early in the second half, leading by 17 with 10 minutes to go and by 10 with under five minutes to play.

But a furious MLAC rally saw Alex Karschnik hit a trey with 14 seconds left in regulation, tying the game at 73. RTR missed two free throws with five seconds left, preserving the tie.

In overtime, though, MLAC’s offense stalled and the Wolverines missed some key free throws, allowing the Knights to take a two-possession lead in the final minute.

Carter Olson led the Wolverines with 30 points in the loss. Karschnik added 14 points and Kody Wassman added 10.

RRC 22-21 = 43
SWC 39-39 = 78

Southwest Christian took command early and never looked back, cruising to a 78-43 win over Red Rock Central Thursday in Edgerton.

The Eagles used tight defense to force the Falcons into 23 turnovers in the game, which created fast-break scoring chances in the opening half. That allowed SWC to take a 17-point halftime lead.

The Eagles also outscored the Falcons 21-0 from three-point range in the game.

Isaac Simonson and Jayden Lang each scored 11 points in the loss. Corey Arkell had 10 points for the Falcons.
