BOYS BASKETBALL: Wolverines dunk St. Mary’s

SESM 23-32 = 55
MLAC 39-28 = 67

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team survived a second-half rally Thursday night, hanging on to defeat Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 67-55 at Comfrey.

The Wolverines led by 16 at halftime after a solid defensive start to the game. MLAC broke the game open with a 10-0 run to close the half.

But St. Mary’s started the second half strong, eventually cutting the Wolverine lead down to three points before MLAC pulled away. Kody Wassman scored a lay-up and Alex Karschnik hit a three-pointer and a dunk to help MLAC’s offense stabilize down the stretch.

Carter Olson scored 19 of his team-high 27 points in the first half. Karschnik scored all of his 11 points in the second half and Wassman finished the game with 10 points.
