The Windom City Council held a special meeting on Thursday afternoon and the council seemed very pleased to hire Donna Torkelson for the finance director opening that they wished to quickly fill.
Torkelson is already an experienced government accounting professional, as she is resigning from her job as the current Cottonwood County Auditor to take this job with the city. The county will not have to hold a special election, according to City Attorney Nick Anderson, and will seek to replace Torkelson and appoint an interim auditor as soon as possible.
When asked about her new position, Torkelson stated, “The auditor/treasurer position has been an amazing experience, but I feel the finance director/controller position with the city of Windom more closely matches my job interests.”
After the meeting, Mayor Dominic Jones reflected, “I think it’s a good hire. I think Donna has the technical capacity to fulfill all the obligations of the city.”
