GIRLS HOCKEY: Eagles top Storm, fall to Scarlets

The Windom Area girls hockey team surged in the closing minutes Friday night, scoring three times in the last 2:21 of regulation to claim a 5-2 victory over Morris-Benson Area at the Windom Arena.

MBA got on the board 23 seconds into the game, but the Eagles answered, scoring at the 9:31 mark of the opening period when Marissa Becker flipped a shot over the shoulder of the Storm goalie.

The score stayed tied until the middle stages of the third period, when the Eagles took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Mataya Hall.

The Storm tied the game at 2-2 with 2:54 left on the clock, but the Eagles scored 33 seconds later on a goal from Marenna Bang, assisted by Addison Schumacher and Lyvia McManigle.

Bang added a second goal with 1:58 left on the clock after intercepting a pass and scoring an unassisted goal.

Then, with 58 seconds left on the clock, Hall scored her second goal of the game after the Storm had pulled their goalie in favor of an extra attacker.

The Eagles outshot the Storm 53-22 for the game. Goalie Fiona Robillard finished with 20 saves.

Mankato West 1-2-2 = 5
Windom Area 0-2-1 = 3

The Windom Area girls hockey team fell behind in the second period and couldn’t battle all the way back Saturday, falling 5-3 to Mankato West at the Windom Arena.

The Scarlets scored in the opening period, but the Eagles tied the game early in the second as Ashlyn Koch scored her first career goal.

But West netted a pair of goals moments later, taking a 3-1 lead. A goal from Marenna Bang cut the deficit to 3-2.

But West sealed the win early in the third, scoring twice in the first 5:09 of the period.

Addison Schumacher netted the final Eagle goal in the third period.

West outshot the Eagles 45-30. Fiona Robillard finished with 40 saves.
