BOYS BASKETBALL: Huskies surge past Eagles

Windom 42-17 = 59
JCC 53-50 = 103

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team sputtered in the second half Saturday as Jackson County Central surged to a 103-59 victory at Jackson.

The Huskies closed the opening half strong after the Eagles held a 23-21 lead. JCC shot 59% from two-point range in the game and held a massive 60-25 edge on the glass.

But in the second half, the Eagle offense went ice cold, shooting just 22% from the field in the second half.

That allowed the Huskies to blow the game open, outscoring the Eagles 50-17 over the final 18 minutes.

Job Ogeka, Charles Erickson and Elliot Serreyn each scored 12 points in the loss for the Eagles. Eli Lund added 11 points.

MLA 18-21-06 = 45
WWG 18-21-03 = 42

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey had its hands full Saturday, needing to rally to force overtime and eventually claim a 45-42 victory over Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Westbrook.

The Wolverines trailed late in regulation, but were able to tie the game in the closing seconds.

WWG opened overtime with a three-pointer, but MLAC answered with a three-pointer of its own. The Wolverines then hit a two-point bucket and a free throw in the closing minutes, icing the victory.

The Wolverines had a frigid shooting night in the game, going 25% from the field and 44% from the free throw line.

Alex Karschnik led the Wolverines with 14 points. Kody Wassman added 10 points and 15 rebounds.

RRC 32-21 = 53
HLOF 29-27 = 56

Red Rock Central couldn’t shake off a cold stretch in the second half Saturday night, dropping a 56-53 decision to Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda in Fulda.

RRC held a seven-point lead in the early stages of the game and led by three at halftime, but HLOF rallied down the stretch, pulling away after the game was tied at 42-42.

The Coyotes forced the Falcons into 20 turnovers and outscored the Falcons 15-4 off turnovers.

Jayden Lang led the Falcons with 20 points. Isaac Simonson finished with 11 points and 17 rebounds and Corey Arkell added 10 points.
