Therapy dogs join students at WAS

The Windom School District is going to the dogs.

On Monday night, the Windom School Board was presented with information about the addition of two therapy dogs to be used at Windom Area Schools.

Melissa Pletcher and Nikki O’Donnell said the dogs have completed the Alliance of Therapy Dog certification and have met all requirements of Policy 625 therapy dogs in school.

The dogs, Dax and Rex, will be at the schools for students and staff to help for several reasons, including decreasing learner anxiety behaviors that interfere with academic growth, increasing school attendance, gaining confidence for students and helping improve relationships with peers and teachers.
