Freezing fog creates slick roads, sidewalks in area

Temperatures that have warmed above freezing during the day caused issues Wednesday morning, as fog that had frozen created slippery roads and sidewalks.

Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington noted deputies responded to an injury accident by Wilder Wednesday morning and assisted the State Patrol on the scene of an accident by Bingham Lake. He added that county roads and city streets and sidewalks are slippery.

“People need to slow down and not overdrive the conditions,” Purrington said. “Everything is slippery right now.”

Cottonwood County Emergency Manager Paul Johnson said that MnDOT currently reports most major roadways are in good driving condition, but added there may be slippery spots, even on highly-traveled roads.

“Right now, I’m concerned about the possibility of freezing rain for Thursday,” Johnson said. “And the foggy conditions are sticking around, so we could see more of this for a few days.”
