GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles run past Cardinals

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team continued its hot streak at home Friday night, racing to an early lead and never looking back in a 77-67 win over Luverne.

The Eagles blew the game open with an 8-0 burst early in the opening half, building a 13-point halftime lead.

The Eagles eventually stretched the lead to 19 points early in the second half, with the game going back-and-forth the rest of the way until the Cardinals whittled the deficit to 10 points in the closing seconds.

The Eagles made hay in transition, outscoring the Cardinals 31-4 in transition in the game.

Hadley Sammons led the way for the Eagles, finishing with 28 points and nine assists. Haidyn Sammons added 20 points and Hannah Dauer finished with 13 points.

MCC 25-12 = 37

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey turned defense into offense in the second half Friday night as the Wolverines rallied for a 44-37 victory over Murray County Cental at Slayton.

MCC held an eight-point advantage at halftime, but the Wolverines turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, holding the Rebels to 12 points over the final 18 minutes.

The Wolverines also outscored the Rebels 19-3 from the free throw line for the game.

Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 18 points and finished with eight rebounds. Annika Brinkman added 11 points.

RTR 40-20 = 60
RRC 12-08 = 20

Red Rock Central was plagued by poor shooting and turnovers Friday night, as the Falcons dropped a 60-20 decision to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at Lamberton.

The Knights raced to a commanding halftime lead, then held the Falcons to just eight points in the second half.

Taylor Lang led the Falcons with six points. Maia Scheffler added five points in the loss.
