TUESDAY GIRLS HOCKEY: Eagles fall in overtime

The Windom Area girls hockey team saw an early lead slip away, then saw the game slip away Tuesday night, as Fairmont claimed a 4-3 overtime victory in Fairmont.

The Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead in the opening period. Toria Robillard got the Eagles on the board 2:42 into the game. Then, at 12:39 of the opening period, Addison Schumacher netted a power play goal, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Windom stretched the lead to 3-0 early in the second on a goal from Marissa Becker, but Fairmont answered with a pair of goals less than a minute apart, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Cardinals then scored a goal 36 seconds into the third period, tying the game at 3-3.

The Eagles started overtime on the power play, but were whistled for a penalty early in the extra period. Seven seconds later, the Cardinals scored a four-on-four goal, with Karissa Newville ending the game.

Windom outshot Fairmont 46-25 for the game. Fiona Robillard finished with 21 saves in the loss.
