James “Jimmy” LeRoy Nelson

A Celebration of Life Service for James “Jimmy” L. Nelson, age 88, of Windom, will be held Wednesday, January 17th, at 11:00 AM at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom with Pastor Sarah Larsen Tade officiating. Burial will be held in Delafield Township Cemetery in rural Windom.

A time of visitation and gathering will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Wednesday at LaCanne Family Celebration of Life Center in Windom. James “Jimmy” LeRoy Nelson was born on June 27, 1935, in Comfrey, MN to the late Wallace and Adeline (Elg) Nelson. He received his education in the Comfrey Public Schools.

On November 30, 1953, Jim began working at TORO manufacturing in Windom where he was a receiving clerk. He was passionate about his job and worked there for over 50 years without a sick day. He also worked as a part-time salesman for Higley Ford in Windom for many years along with operating Jim’s Saw Shop for thirty-five years.

On March 5, 1976, Jim was united in marriage to Elaine Bacon in Estherville, Iowa. After marriage, Jim and Elaine lived in Windom and were dedicated members of the American Lutheran Church in Windom where Jim enjoyed ushering for many years. Jim had many enjoyments in his life which included square dancing with the Frontier Twirlers Club, along with camping with family. His favorite passion in life was attending and being a part of the Butterfield Threshing Bee. He also loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

James passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13th at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom.

James is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 48 years, Elaine Nelson of Windom; three children, Peggy Winters of Windom, Dan (Holly) Nelson of Tucson, AZ, and Jody (Katarina) Nelson of Silverthorne, CO; one sister, Lynda Arduser of Madelia; two brothers, Donavan Nelson of Windom, and Gary (Joleen) Nelson of St. James; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Bacon) Locke of Warner Robins, GA, and Doris Bacon of Windom; one brother-in-law, Allen Bacon of Reynolds, IN; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Brian Winters; brothers-in-law, Doug Johnson, Jay Locke, Dale Bacon, and Dennis Arduser; and one sister-in-law, Carol Johnson.
