A recent scam involving someone posing as a Rock County deputy has raised concerns throughout Southwest Minnesota.
In a recent report by the Rock County Sheriff’s Department, residents were told that the scam is definitely a concern.
“We have received numerous calls regarding a Sgt. Adam Scott from the Rock County Sheriffs Office informing the caller they failed to appear for court,” the department’s statement says. “Caller ID comes back as Rock County Sheriff’s Office 507-283-5000.”
One caller advised a callback number left on her voicemail was 507-225-6413. When Sheriff Evan Verbrugge called this number, an actual person did answer.
When Sheriff Verbrugge asked if Mr. Scott was available to come into his office, the person hung up the phone.
“Please do not give out any personal information to anyone that calls you,” a department spokesperson said. “If you have questions about a call, hang up and call the Actual Rock County Sheriff’s Office.”
