Blizzard warning closes schools, Toro

The forecast of upwards of five inches of snowfall overnight didn’t quite materialize, but projections of winds in excess of 40 miles per hour today prompted the National Weather Service to issue a blizzard warning for much of Southwest Minnesota and Northwest Iowa, including Cottonwood County.

That prompted Windom, Mt. Lake, Red Rock Central and Westbrook-Walnut Grove schools to all cancel in-person classes for the day. Mt. Lake is having an e-learning day.

Additionally, Toro announced Thursday night that it was cancelling all its Friday shifts due to the forecasts for whiteout conditions.

The Windom Chamber of Commerce office also closed for the day Friday due to the weather.
