GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles topple Saints

Windom 41-40 = 81
St. James 30-37 = 67

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team pulled away in the second half Saturday, rolling to an 81-67 victory over St. James in a game played at Target Center in Minneapolis.

The Eagles were able to build an 11-point advantage in the opening half behind strong defense and transition offense.

St. James was able to cut into the deficit early in the second half, but a 12-0 run propelled the Eagles to a 22-point lead.

Windom outscored the Saints 48-26 in the paint and 20-11 in transition in the win.

Haidyn Sammons poured in 29 points in the victory, adding five steals. Hannah Dauer added 18 points and Hadley Sammons finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

Wabasso 15-30 = 45
RRC 07-21 = 28

A rough night from the field doomed the Red Rock Central girls basketball team Saturday, as the Falcons fell 45-28 to Wabasso in Lamberton.

RRC hit just nine field goals in the game, shooting below 20% from the field. The poor shooting allowed Wabasso to hold the Falcons to seven first-half points.

Both offenses warmed up in the second half, but the Rabbits were able to capitalize on Falcon turnovers and a 54-37 edge on the glass to secure the win.

Alyssa Cowan led RRC with 10 points. Taylor Lang added eight in the loss.
