GIRLS HOCKEY: Eagles split two at MBA Tourney

For the second time this season, the Windom Area girls hockey team was stymied by Prairie Centre goalie Kennedy Lemke Wednesday, as the Blue Devils defeated the Eagles 2-1 in a shootout at the MBA Tournament in Benson.

The Eagles outshot Prairie Centre 56-7 for the game, but it was the Blue Devils that got on the board first, scoring in the opening period.

The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the second period, when Lyvia McManigle fired a shot past Lemke.

The game stayed tied through the third period and overtime, sending the game into a penalty shot shootout, which the Blue Devils won.

Eagle goalie Fiona Robillard finished with six saves before the shootout.

The Windom Area girls hockey team regrouped from a disappointing loss Wednesday by claiming a 2-1 victory over Morris-Benson Area Thursday in the MBA Tournament at Benson.

The Eagles jumped to the early lead, scoring on a Madyson Fredin unassisted goal in the opening period.

MBA tied the game 1:21 into the third period, but the Eagles netted the game-winner with 2:43 left in regulation, when Marissa Becker took a centering pass and fired a shot past the Storm goalie. Lyvia McManigle and Ella Dockter assisted on the goal.

Windom Area outshot MBA 29-89 for the game. Goalie Lilly McNea finished with eight save in the win.
