GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles top Cards for title

Fairmont 37-39 = 76
Windom 43-41 = 84

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team fought off every second-half surge Thursday, hanging on to defeat Fairmont 84-76 in the championship game of the Windom Holiday Classic.

The Eagles attacked the basket in the second half, going 28-of-37 from the stripe for the game compared to 13-of-20 from the line for the Cardinals.

Much of that damage from the line came in the second half, as the Eagles were battling to preserve a lead. The Eagles were able to build the lead up to 10 points early in the half, but the Cardinals cut the deficit to four points on several occasions.

On each, the Eagles were able to get the to free throw line or score a critical bucket.

Down the stretch, the Eagles prevented the Cardinals from putting up good shot attempts, and Windom sealed the win from the line.

Haidyn Sammons led the Eagles with 22 points. Hadley Sammons added 20 points. Tristyn Maras finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Hannah Dauer added 12 points in the win.
