BOYS BASKETBALL: Saints take title from Eagles

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team struggled in the second half Thursday, which allowed Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg to rally for a 71-64 win in the finals of the Windom Holiday Classic.

Neither team shot well from the field in the game, but after trailing by eight at halftime, KMS opened the second half with a 13-0 run and never looked back.

The Saints outscored the Eagles 25-9 from the free throw line and pulled down 18 offensive rebounds in the game.

Meanwhile, the KMS dominant duo of DeAndre Holloway and Jared Cortez combined for 62 of the Saints’ 71 points in the game.

Drew Rothenberger led the Eagles with 21 points. Eli Lund added 14 points and Charles Erickson added 10.

Springfield 33-32 = 65
MLAC 43-44 = 87

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey was sharp early and had solid offensive balance Thursday night, rolling to an 87-65 victory over Springfield in Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines hit six three-pointers in the opening half, helping stake themselves to a 10-point halftime lead.

The Wolverines then opened the throttle more in the second half, as eight players found the scoring column in the half.

Five Wolverines finished the game scoring in double figures, led by Alex Karschnik with 19 points. Carter Olson added 17 points. Grant Oakland scored 13. Ashton Toll and Grant Regier scored 10 points each.
