GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles roll past Sting

YME 24-20 = 44
Windom 57-33 = 90

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team was in control from the start in the opening round of the Windom Holiday Classic Wednesday, rolling to a 90-44 victory over Yellow Medicine East.

Windom came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders, hitting four three-pointers in the early minutes of the game to establish a quick 17-3 lead.

The Eagle defense made things difficult for the Sting in the early going, as Windom forced turnovers that led to fast-break buckets. The Eagles outscored YME 24-2 in transition for the game, and outscored the Sting 29-4 off turnovers. Much of that damage came in the first half, as the Eagle pressure helped establish a 33-point halftime edge.

The Eagles continued strong shooting in the second half, finishing the game at just under 50% from the field. Windom also hit 13 three-pointers as a team, shooting 42% from three-point range.

Hannah Dauer led the Eagles with 20 points in the win. Haidyn Sammons added 18 points and nine assists and Anja Nielsen finished with 12 points.
