GIRLS HOCKEY: Eagle girls win second straight

The Windom Area girls hockey team headed toward the holidays hot Thursday night, claiming a 4-1 victory over Fairmont at the Windom Arena.

The Eagle offense had its third straight game with a high number of shots on goal as Windom Area picked up a second consecutive win.

The Eagles opened the scoring late in the opening period, when Ella Dockter took a feed in front of the net and rolled a shot past the Cardinal goalie, hugging the right post for a 1-0 Eagle lead.

The Eagles stretched their lead to 2-0 in the second, when Dockter and Marissa Becker worked a shorthanded two-on-one, with Becker firing home a goal.

Leading 2-1 in the third, the Eagles put the game away. Madyson Fredin picked off a pass and scored on a breakaway. Then, at the 7:56 mark of the period, Reagan Haugen intercepted a clearing attempt and scored the Eagles’ second shorthanded goal of the game.

The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 53-18 for the game. Goalie Fiona Robillard finished with 17 saves.
