GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles, Wolverines fall Thursday

Windom 19-34 = 53
JCC 34-29 = 63

A furious second-half rally came up just short for the Windom girls basketball team Thursday as the Eagles fell 63-53 to Jackson County Central in Jackson.

JCC led by 15 at halftime and led by as many as 22 in the second half, but the Eagles were able to battle back, cutting the JCC lead to six with just over a minute to play. But a pair of late baskets helped JCC hold off the rally and secure the victory.

Hannah Dauer paced the Eagles with 13 points. Haidyn Sammons added 12 and Tristyn Maras scored 10 in the loss.

WWG 38-23 = 61
MLAC 19-17 = 36

Westbrook-Walnut Grove was hot from the outside and was able to turn the tables on Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey Thursday, claiming a 61-36 victory in Mt. Lake.

The Chargers hit 10 three-pointers in the game and forced the Wolverines into 21 turnovers, which allowed WWG to build a commanding lead early and preserve it in the second half.

WWG also pounded the glass, with 24 offensive boards and outrebounding MLAC 52-37 for the game.

Julia Brinkman led the Wolverines with 12 points in the loss. Ellamae Peters and Alexis Romsdahl each added seven points.
