The Windom Area boys hockey team found its offensive footing Thursday night, racing to a 10-1 victory over Redwood Valley at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles peppered the Cardinal net throughout the game and were able to apply offensive pressure.
That included in the early stages of the game, when the Eagles were whistled for a five-minute boarding penalty. While skating shorthanded for five minutes, the Eagles were able to take a 3-0 lead, as senior Sonny Heil netted three shorthanded goals during the five-minute penalty.
The Eagles padded the lead as Ian Nelson and Karson LaCanne scored late in the opening period for a 5-0 lead.
The Eagles expanded the lead in the second period. Wriley Haugen and LaCanne each scored in the first two minutes of the period. Nelson added his second goal of the game at the 4:49 mark and Charlie Smith found the net with 4:54 left in the period.
Redwood Valley broke the shutout with 5:32 left in the game, but the Eagles scored moments later on Haugen’s second goal of the game.
Heil finished with three goals and three assists in the win. LaCanne added four assists to his two goals and Haugen had three assists with his two goals.
Windom Area outshot Redwood Valley 47-17 for the game. Goalie Adam Dahna finished with 16 saves.
