GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles race past Cardinals

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team raced to a fast start and pushed the pace early in the second half, opening up a big lead on its way to a 64-45 victory over Redwood Valley Friday in Redwood Falls.

The Eagles shot 42% from the field while holding the Cardinals to 32% from the floor. That allowed Windom to open a 17-point halftime lead.

The Eagles eventually built the lead to 26 points in the second half before the Cardinals trimmed the deficit to 19 at the final horn.

Haidyn Sammons, Hannah Dauer and Anja Nielsen each scored 14 points in the win for the Eagles.

A powerful Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s squad was dominant on both ends of the floor Saturday as the Knights cruised to a 105-32 win over Red Rock Central at Sleepy Eye.

The Knights pressed their way to a 65-18 halftime lead, as the Knights forced 29 Falcon turnovers for the game and shot just under 60% from the field.

Ella Erickson paced the Falcons with 18 points.

MLAC 32-33 = 65

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey built a comfortable lead early and held on throughout the second half Friday, securing a 65-52 win over Red Rock Central at Mt. Lake.

The Wolverines were able to use their defense to set up the offense, forcing the Falcons into 24 turnovers for the game.

That allowed MLAC to race to a nine-point halftime lead. The Wolverines were able to maintain a multiple-possession lead throughout the second half, eventually stretching the lead as high as 14 points.

Annika Brinkman paced the Wolverines with 20 points in the win. Julia Brinkman had 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals. Ellamae Peters finished with 12 points.

Taylor Lang led RRC with 20 points. Mercedes Myers finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sydney Vogel added 10 points.
