BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles fall to Cards Friday

An early deficit proved to be too much for the Windom boys basketball team to overcome Friday, as the Eagles fell 83-61 to Redwood Valley at Windom.

The Cardinals surged early to a 15-point lead, stretching the lead to 16 at the half and 20 early in the second half.

The Eagles battled back, whittling the deficit down to eight points halfway through the second half, but the Cardinals were able to pull away late.

Drew Rothenberger led the Eagles with 17 points. Job Ogeka scored 13 and Charlie Erickson added 10 in the loss.

RRC 28-40 = 68
SESM 45-34 = 79

Red Rock Central mounted a furious second-half rally Saturday but ran out of gas in a 79-68 loss at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s.

The Knights led by 17 points at halftime, but the Falcons surged to start the second half, tying the game before St. Mary’s pulled away over the final 10 minutes.

Isaac Simonson led the Falcons with 26 points and 19 rebounds in the loss. Corey Arkell finished with 13 points and 13 boards, while Jayden Lang added 10 points.

MLAC 35-39 = 74
MCC 39-38 = 77

Murray County Central closed the game with a surge Thursday night, rallying for a 77-74 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey at Slayton.

The Rebels rallied from a 12-point first-half deficit, taking a four-point halftime lead. MCC then jumped out to a 10-point lead in the second half, but the Wolverines rallied, taking a three-point lead late in the game.

But MCC surged back to a lead in the closing minutes and hung on late for the three-point win.

Grant Regier led MLAC with 19 points. Grant Oakland scored 17, Carter Olson had 14 and Alex Karschnik scored 14 in the loss.

RTR 35-30 = 65
RRC 25-24 = 49

Defending state champion Russell-Tyler-Ruthton steadily pulled away from Red Rock Central Thursday, surging to a 65-49 victory at Lamberton.

The Knights jumped to a 10-point halftime cushion and led by double figures most of the second half.

The Knights battered the Falcons on the offensive glass, recording 28 offensive rebounds. RTR also forced the Falcons into 23 turnovers.

Isaac Simonson led the Falcons with 20 points. Jayden Lang chipped in 12.
